Anon, Teatro S Carlo, 1830

Inaugurated on 4 November 1737 – replacing the Teatro San Bartolomeo (built 1621) - the Teatro S. Carlo was the most important opera house in Naples and, arguably, in Italy at mid-century.

Although the interior of the theatre was destroyed by fire in 1816, the façade was largely undamaged and remained as Mozart would have seen it.

Mozart Relevance

Mozart and his father heard Jommelli's Armida abbandonata here on 30 May 1770.
