Military man. Laudon joined Austrian military service in 1741, serving in the Third Silesian War (1758), at the Battle of Liegnitz (1760), as commander-in-chief of the Austrian armies in Bohemia and Moravia (1769) and in the War of the Bavarian Succession (1778). During the Austro-Turkish war (1787-1791), he distinguished himself in particular at the Siege of Belgrade (1789).
