Founded in 1583, the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini, like the Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio a Capuana, was a charitable institution for the care of orphans and abandoned children. As a music school, its pupils included Leonardo Leo, Niccolò Jommelli and Pasquale Cafaro. In 1806, the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini, like all other Neapolitan conservatories, was incorporated into the Real Collegio di Musica, subsequently the Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella.
